Audition FAQs
Is womanSong the right chorus for you? Yes, if you are a woman who:
- loves singing a variety of repertoire (classical, world music, folk, and more)
- has some sight-reading ability
- can commit to our rehearsal/ performance schedule
What can you tell me about the audition process?
During the musical audition, the Director will ask you to:
- sing scales and warm-ups (to determine tone quality and range)
- repeat simple melodic patterns (to ascertain tonal memory/pitch recognition)
- sight-read an excerpt (to determine your level of reading skill)
What responsibilities will I have as a member of womanSong?
First and foremost, at the core of womanSong’s mission we strive for a high quality of musical excellence. Therefore, the ability to learn your music in a timely manner is of the utmost importance.
womanSong’s concert season usually consists of two major concerts, and several smaller concerts throughout the community.
Rehearsals
- Singers are expected to attend weekly rehearsals, which are held on Tuesdays from 7:00- 9:00 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston.
- An additional dress rehearsal is held during the week prior to each major concert. Attendance is mandatory.
- If needed, extra rehearsals will be scheduled at the Director's discretion. One retreat/rehearsal is scheduled per concert preparation period, as well as several sectionals.
Financial Obligations
Annual dues are $210 payable at the beginning of the season, or in three installments. In addition, concert attire must be purchased.
Concert Attire
Concert attire consists of a black concert dress and black jacket for most events, as well as a colored pashmina shawl. The cost for these is approximately $100.
